THE annual Dinner Under the Stars kicked off last Saturday at two eight two eight in Gulargambone with Adama, a leading provider of crop protection solutions, sponsoring the main entertainment.
Although the event was moved indoors to the Gulargambone Memorial Hall due to the impending threat of rain, it didn't seem to deter the 338 guests from attending and enjoying the three-course meal catered by Relish, the live entertainment and silent auction items.
"This was only the second time the dinner has been held indoors," said Committee Organiser Angela O'Brien, "but it was definitely better than last year thanks to the fantastic surprise entertainment."
The entertainment was a surprise singing act by an undercover chef and two Adama girls, sponsored by Adama. The chef came up on the stage thanking the guests for allowing him to cater at the event, he then proceeded to start singing an Opera song, with the two Adama girls who handed out the lucky draw prizes at the door at the beginning of the night, later joining in.
The entertainment carried on for half an hour, with all the guests joining in on the singing dancing and comedy act.
Coonamble Council Mayor, Tom Cullen awarded Angela O'Brien with the Premiers Award on the night acknowledging her on her continued support and dedication to two eight two eight and the Gulargambone Shire.
"It was a huge surprise and I am very honoured," said Angela on receiving her award, "but as I said on the night - the award belongs to everyone who has helped two eight two eight since 2002 - the year we began. Over 200 volunteers have helped with the project since its inception and so it has been a massive team effort and I am very happy to accept the award on their behalf."
Over fifty prizes were auctioned on the night including a Faema Carisma Coffee Machine, Sydney Weekend Getaway, Degustation Meal for 20 at two eight two eight, a Corrugated Iron Galah, as well as jewellery, wine and many more items. A total amount of $30,000 was raised; the highest amount since the black tie event began seven years ago.
