Standing with Natimuk, VIC: Supporting recovery, resilience and connection.

Following the devastating grassfires that swept through Natimuk (VIC) earlier this year, we had the privilege of standing alongside the local community. Not only in support, but in helping bring people together during a critical time.

Working closely with local organisers, ADAMA was proud to help coordinate a community event for those impacted, creating a space for connection, reflection and recovery. What we heard on the ground was confronting. The fires moved fast. There was little warning. For many, there was no time to evacuate.

When every second counts

The January grassfires tore through the region with incredible speed, forcing people to act immediately to protect their homes, livestock and livelihoods.

In those moments, the strength of the community was clear. Neighbours showed up for one another. Farmers worked side by side. Decisions were made quickly, and in the face of uncertainty, the strength of the community led the response.

Bringing the community together

Recovery is not just about rebuilding what has been lost. It is also about supporting people through what comes next.

In the wake of the fires, ADAMA’s Jeremy White was keen to put together an event to support the affected communities. Speaking with Noradjuha-Quantong Football Netball Club President Austin Smith, and Natimuk Showgrounds Committee President Travis Mayberry, they collectively brought together sponsorship, and with support of local chef Stewart Neighbour, helped bring the community together for The Unbreakable Farmer event, featuring Warren Davies. The evening created space for people to connect, share their experiences and hear practical insights on navigating challenging times.

“Resilience is built through the tools we carry with us, the strategies, support and mindset that help us navigate the hard times.” - Warren Davies, The Unbreakable Farmer.

His message resonated across the room. While tough seasons are part of life, having the right tools and support can make a meaningful difference in how people move forward.

Our role in supporting local communities

At ADAMA, we are proud to stand alongside the communities we work with every day. Agriculture is built on people, and in times like these, connection and support are essential. We remain committed to supporting regional communities through recovery, strengthening resilience and helping build for the future.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing the Natimuk community together. From organisers and volunteers to the growers who continue to show strength and resilience, your efforts are what make communities like this so powerful.
