Marathon® herbicide hits the ground running: Celebrating our new Australian launch
South Australian farmer Anthony became the first purchaser of Marathon® after a recommendation from agronomist Angus Faulkner, marking an exciting early milestone in the product's Australian launch.
IT’S only been a couple of months, but the early part of the journey since launching our new Marathon® broadleaf weed herbicide tank-mix partner already has been very exciting – and fun for our team at ADAMA Australia too!
We’re always thrilled to launch new products that offer solutions to key grower challenges, and we certainly have a good feeling about Marathon®. And why wouldn’t we…a new tank mix partner that introduces another herbicide mode of action into programs, and which, in combination with a range of other ADAMA herbicides, can help better control more weeds, including herbicide-resistant types. Maybe even helping to avoid the typical two-spray strategy employed against problem broadleaf weeds…some might call that “the perfect mix”!
As expected, it didn’t take long for growers to join the “support crew”, and we recently recognised the first purchaser of Marathon, South Australian farmer Anthony, after he took the step following a recommendation from his agronomist, Angus Faulkner.
Anthony was keen to target wild radish with Marathon, which he says is appealing due to its flexible application rate range and its compatibility with other tank-mix partners.
Angus says the product’s flexibility is one of its great benefits, allowing growers to alter Marathon applications according to what weeds may be present, and their herbicide-resistant status.
The ADAMA Australia team embraced the launch of Marathon®, sporting signature herbicide-green Marathon® polos to celebrate the product's arrival in market.
Other co-formulation herbicides can apply a high rate of pyrasulfotole that may not be required, whereas with Marathon, you can tailor the pyrasulfotole rate and fully customise your tank mixes, including with a range of ADAMA options that broaden the weed spectrum controlled. It can be mixed with Bronco® 400, Quadrant®, Triathlon®, Colt®, Legacy® MA, LVE MCPA 570, Priority® and Picoflex®.
Marathon comprises a high 230 grams per litre of the Group 27 pyrasulfotole herbicide and it provides particularly robust control of wild radish as well as wild turnip and Indian hedge mustard, plus it targets sowthistle, Paterson’s curse, prickly lettuce, climbing buckwheat, bifora, deadnettle and many other weeds.
With the peace of mind of an in-built crop safener, Marathon can be applied from the two-leaf crop stage (also depending upon its tank mix partner) and its unique formulation technology has helped enhance its solubility, stability and performance under diverse environmental conditions, preventing the crystallisation that can occur with other pyrasulfotole herbicides.
Procurement Analytics Manager Karen Lloyd proudly represented Marathon®, running the Canberra Marathon in full branded gear as part of the launch celebrations.
To further celebrate the launch of Marathon, we have also been running a giveaway competition for grower customers and advisors, offering the chance to win $1,000 prize bundles that include an R.M. Williams gift voucher, a Stormtech cooler bag and jacket, and a pair of Marathon-branded shorts. Plus, we have been doing plenty of dressing-up ourselves – our team have been sporting Marathon polos in our signature herbicide green, and even our Procurement Analytics Manager, Karen Lloyd, recently ran the Canberra Marathon in…you guessed it…full Marathon-branded attire.
All-round, it’s been a fantastic collaboration between our local ADAMA Australia team, agronomists and farmers to support the adoption of our new broadleaf weed herbicide tank-mix partner in the market, and we look forward to continuing to introduce Marathon to more Australian growers.
