General info

Weed control remains one of the key challenges in fodder beet production, with many growers facing increasing difficulty managing problematic broadleaf weeds using existing post-emergence herbicide programmes.

Trifix® is an innovative new post-emergence herbicide designed to be integrated into current fodder beet weed control strategies, delivering enhanced control of challenging weeds when applied alongside established post-emergence products such as Goltix® Gold, Rifle® EC, Ethosat® and Betanal Quattro.

As part of a robust weed management programme, post-emergence applications of Trifix® should always follow a pre-emergence treatment with products such as Ethosat, Goltix Gold or Magister® CS.

By providing growers and agronomists with an additional post-emergence herbicide option, Trifix® helps improve weed control, support crop establishment, reduce early-season competition, and ultimately maximise fodder beet yield potential.

Mode of Action

Trifix® is a Group 2 herbicide that inhibits the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme in susceptible weeds from producing the proteins needed for growth. Trifix® prevents susceptible weeds from maintaining normal cell division and growth, particularly in actively growing tissues. Treated weeds typically stop growing shortly after application, with visible symptoms developing over the following days and weeks depending on weed species and growing conditions.

Contact Activity

Trifix® is a post-emergence herbicide designed to control weeds that have already emerged. It acts primarily through foliar uptake and has no significant residual soil activity, meaning it does not provide extended control of weeds germinating after application. For this reason, Trifix® must be used as part of a comprehensive weed management programme that includes effective pre-emergence herbicides and timely post-emergence applications.

Application Considerations

Achieving thorough spray coverage is critical to maximising the performance of Trifix®. As the product is absorbed through weed foliage, complete coverage of the target weeds is essential for optimum control. Trifix® should be applied using a well-maintained, properly calibrated sprayer delivering a minimum of 200 L/ha water volume. Nozzles should be selected to produce a medium droplet size to ensure good coverage while minimising spray drift. Applications should be made to actively growing weeds under favourable growing conditions.

Key Benefits

✔ Enabling growers to strengthen existing herbicide programs and maximise crop yields

✔ Excellent crop safety – globally proven to be gentle on fodder beet during early establishment

✔ Compatible with key fodder beet herbicides

✔ Short plant back intervals for following crops

Application

Trifix® is designed to be integrated into existing post-emergence herbicide programmes. It can be tank mixed with commonly used fodder beet herbicides, including Goltix Gold, Rifle EC, Ethosat, and Betanal Quattro.

For best results, use Trifix® as part of a complete weed management programme following a pre-emergence herbicide application, such as Goltix Gold, Magister CS, or Ethosat.

Resistance Management

Avoid applying a 'Group 2 Herbicide' alone as this increases the risk of weed resistance developing. Refer to specific product label statements as some 'Group 2 Herbicides' can only be applied as a tank mix with another herbicide from the different herbicide 'Group'.

If weed spectrum and crop type allows, always take the opportunity to mix 'Group 2 herbicides' with another herbicide from a different herbicide 'Group' that is registered to control the same weed species.

Use an 'Integrated Weed Management' (IWM) approach in each paddock. IWM includes mechanical, cultural and chemical control methods which will improve the long-term effectiveness of 'Group 2 herbicides'.

FAQs

What is Trifix® used for?

Post emergent broadleaf weed control

What crops is it registered in?

Fodder beet

What weeds does it target?

Targets key weeds including mayweed, wild turnips, stinging nettle, shepherds purse and suppresses a wider range of other important broadleaf weeds including mallow, wireweed and willow weed.

When should Trifix® be applied?

Trifix® should be applied from the cotyledon growth stage of the fodder beet crop, ideally targeting weeds at the cotyledon to 2 true leaf growth stage.

Can it be used with other products?

Trifix® should always be tank mixed with other post emergent herbicides including Goltix Gold, Rifle EC, Ethosat or Betanal Quattro

What water rate should Trifix® be applied in?

Trifix® should be applied in a minimum of 200 L/ha water.

Does Trifix® have any residual activity?

No - Trifix® has no residual activity and relies on foliar contact uptake.

Can Trifix® be applied without a tank mix partner?

No – Trifix® must always be applied with another post emergent herbicide registered for fodder beet.
