New Herbicide Delivers on Grower Needs—and Gives Back

ADAMA Canada introduces GORDEX™, a new liquid herbicide inspired by grower feedback and named in recognition of a trusted industry voice.

Winnipeg, MB — January 16, 2026 — It’s rare in Canadian agriculture for a crop protection product to be named after a person. It’s even more rare for that name to reflect years of listening to growers and turning their needs into a practical solution.

Introducing GORDEX™, a new liquid herbicide developed from years of grower feedback by ADAMA Canada to help manage tough, resistant weeds—and named in recognition of Gord Hounjet, a longtime ADAMA Area Business Manager who helped turn those conversations into a solution.

“I’d been bringing grower feedback to our development team for years,” says Hounjet. “As pressure from resistant weeds like kochia and the need for a more effective, easy-to-use pre-seed option increased, those conversations helped shape GORDEX™.”

Built From Grower Feedback
GORDEX™ is a multi-mode herbicide designed to be tank-mixed with glyphosate and applied pre-seed ahead of cereals, offering contact control of problem weeds like kochia and wild buckwheat with extended control of some broadleaf weeds like volunteer canola.

With a combination of Florasulam and Dicamba, GORDEX™ helps manage Group 2 and Group 9 resistant weeds, while its liquid co-pack formulation improves ease of handling and tank-mixing and treats twice the acres of previous products.

“The combination of performance and practicality is what really stood out,” says Ambrely Ralph, Product Manager at ADAMA. “Growers want products that work, but they also want products that fit smoothly into their operation. GORDEX™ delivers on both.”

A Name That Reflects the Story
While naming a product after an employee is unusual in the crop protection industry, ADAMA leaders felt it was a fitting way to recognize Hounjet’s role in bringing grower insights forward—and the values he represents.

“When we saw how the product was performing in the field, the name just made sense,” says ADAMA General Manager, Cornie Thiessen. “Reliable, effective, and easy to work with—those are qualities people associate with Gord, and they describe GORDEX™ well too.”

Giving Back to the Future of Agriculture
For Hounjet, the launch of GORDEX™ was also an opportunity to support the next generation of agricultural leaders.

At his request, five dollars from every case of GORDEX™ sold will be donated to Prairie 4-H programs in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, up to a total of $30,000. The contribution will support youth leadership development, education, and hands-on agricultural experiences.

“4-H has played a huge role in developing future leaders in agriculture,” says Hounjet. “If this product can help today’s growers and also support the next generation coming up behind them, that’s something I’m really proud of.”

Now Available
GORDEX™ is available through ADAMA retail partners across Western Canada. With its multi-mode formulation, ease of use, and grower-driven design, it delivers on the needs of today’s farmers while giving back to the next generation through 4-H. Growers are encouraged to speak with their local ADAMA representative to learn how GORDEX™ can fit into their pre-seed weed control program.
