Important Tips for Flea Beetle Management
Flea Beetle and Box of SILENCER Insecticide

Now that SILENCER 120 EC no longer as any restrictions for use in canola, we wanted to make sure you were ready for flea beetle season!  Here are some best management practices to minimize flea beetle damage:

  • Seed Treatments: protect seedlings during early growth, however if canola grows slowly treatments can loose effectiveness.
  • Early Seeding: Seed early when soil temperatures allow, so plants grow quickly and can better tolerate feeding.
  • Proper Seeding Rate and Depth: Aim for 5–8 plants per square foot and ensure shallow, even depth (around 0.5–1 inch) for quick emergence.
  • Scout Frequently: Monitor fields daily during seedling emergence (especially from cotyledon to 4-leaf stage). Damage can occur quickly.
  • Threshold Awareness: Apply foliar insecticide if defoliation reaches 25% and beetles are still actively feeding.
  • Spray when flea beetles are active: warm, dry and calm conditions are when flea beetles are most active ... and perfect for spraying!

ADAMA Gets Moving for Mental Health

In early April, 41 members of Team ADAMA laced up their shoes to walk in the Journey 5km by Winfield United Canada in support of The Do More Agriculture Foundation.

“We’ve been participating in the Journey 5km since it started, and we are very proud to support such an important cause,” says Jodi Starodub, Marketing Lead at ADAMA Canada. “This year the ADAMA team was lucky enough to take the walk together at our national sales meeting – we all agree mental health should be a priority and we hope this brings awareness.”

NEW Lower Rate, SAME High Performance

MAXENTIS® is now registered for controlling Blackleg in canola at a lower rate - 253mL/ac. Treat up to 33 ac/jug, 467 ac/drum at this new rate.

MAXENTIS® features two distinct, elite modes of action for resistance management (Groups 3 & 11) along with long-lasting systemic activity that provide protective and curative action. Early application at the 2-6 leaf stage is required; according to the Canola Council infection prior to the 2 leaf stage is most detrimental.

Marci LeBlanc, Technical Sales Agronomist

Marci’s journey with ADAMA Canada began in 2023 as a Technical Sales Agronomist (TSA) summer student. She returned the following spring to complete an 8-month practicum, earning her Bachelor of Agriculture Technology from Lakeland College. In January 2025, Marci joined the team full-time as a TSA, covering the Southern Saskatchewan territory.

Her passion for agronomy first developed on her family’s grain farm, where she was always curious about the “why” behind the agronomic decisions their agronomist would make. Now, Marci has come full circle—sharing agronomic insights and helping her customers understand the "why" behind every recommendation.

Outside of the field, Marci is a lifelong hockey player who still hits the ice with her rec team.

How We Got Caught in the US Debt Fight

April saw some significant international chaos, much of it initiated by the Trump administration. While the media focuses on the punches being traded between countries, it’s become easier to overlook some of the internal dynamics that can provide some context to the actions being taken by the US.
