Rein in Wild Oats in Wheat with CAZADO™

Wild Oats are a top concerns for Canadian wheat growers — and they’re only getting tougher to manage with resistance issues. That’s why we developed CAZADO™ to help growers stay in front of resistance and it’s already working in Western Canadian fields.

“The all-in-one Group 1 and Group 2 from CAZADO™ got the Wild Oats in my wheat under control,” says Walter Kleinsasser, from Smiley, SK.

CAZADO™ combines two effective modes of action to target Wild Oats without the mixing hassle or crop safety concerns. Learn more about how it can help you take on resistance.

Craig Olson, Area Business Manager

Craig Olson wasn’t raised on a farm, but he found his way there fast -- and never looked back.

“As a kid, I spent every chance I could working on friends’ farms,” he says. “That’s where I fell in love with the work, the people, all of it.”

Craig’s been supporting growers in Southern Alberta for over six years as an Area Business Manager. He’s built strong relationships across the region, not just by offering solutions, but by listening and learning.

“The farmers I work with have taught me so much,” Craig says. “Their problem-solving, their generosity and their resilience. It’s had a real impact on me, personally and professionally.”

When the workday ends, Craig trades crop talk for the kitchen. His specialty? Elk jerky and sausage. “It’s a bit of an art form and like farming, it’s something I’ll always be learning.”

Pest Focus: Cabbage Seedpod Weevils

Canola Council of Canada is reporting that Cabbage Seedpod Weevil (CSPW) numbers are trending high in parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan, even in areas without historical pressure. Don’t get caught off guard!

The time to scout for these damaging pests is between 10-30% flower, and if you net over 25 in 10 sweeps an insecticide application is recommended. That being said, you may want to consider lower thresholds in dry conditions.

Since most damage comes from egg-laying in young pods, the goal is to apply insecticide just before significant egg-laying begins — typically when the first pods are about ¾" long, around 20% flower or when the first petals begin to fall. Get more CSPW info from the Canola Council of Canada.

SILENCER® 120 EC offers effective knockdown to protect your yield during this critical window. And now, with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency reinstating livestock grain feeding use for SILENCER® 120 EC, it’s an even more versatile choice. The reinstatement applies to grain and meal from treated canola, cereals, field corn, soybeans and pulses. Check the updated label for full details.
