Hubspot Gilboa Banner

If you didn’t see it this season, ADAMA's Next Generation Cereal Fungicide - Gilboa®, was impressing agronomists and growers in field trials up and down the country, with over 100 trial plots demonstrating the new Mode of Action.

Our ‘ADAMA in Action’ sites hosted hundreds of farmers and agronomists throughout the summer, so if you didn’t make it to a site this year, here’s just a sample of what we saw.

So, what's so special about Gilboa®?

Florian is ADAMA’s Global Head of Portfolio and Innovation. For Florian, what makes Gilboa® so special comes down to one thing: a high performing, genuinely new mode of action for cereals.

“Gilboa® is so important for the industry as it brings a new mode of action to cereals at an efficacy level that is outstanding.”

It's not just a UK story either. Growers everywhere are facing the same challenge of fungicide programmes leaning too heavily on the same modes of action, season after season.

“If you're always going with the same mode of action, this comes with significant risk of resistance developing. With Gilboa® you have a molecule delivering a high level of efficacy but with a different mode of action, and that's exactly what growers need.”

Gilboa’s mode of action is ‘DRSP’, what does ‘DRSP’ mean?

Due to the complex nature of these molecules, the industry often uses acronyms to simplify the modes of action, and Gilboa® is no exception, ‘DRSP’. We asked Dorin to break down what DRSP stands for and what it means for growers and agronomists.

“Like many modes of action out there, they'll have an acronym linked to the chemical group that's been registered e.g. SDHIs, DMIs, QiIs... For Gilboa®, the acronym is DRSP which stands for ‘DNA-RNA Synthesis Proposed’. This means it targets the DNA-RNA synthesis of the pathogen.”

Crucially, this sets Gilboa® apart from groups growers already know well:

“Gilboa® is very different. The SDHIs or QiIs have activity on respiration, whereas with Gilboa®, the activity of the active ingredient is focusing on DNA repair.”

In plain terms: rather than disrupting a pathogen's energy production, Gilboa® interferes with its ability to repair and replicate its own DNA, a genuinely brand-new mode of action, and exactly what the industry needs.

Why Gilboa® matters to ADAMA

ADAMA has built its reputation on taking established molecules and turning them into great formulations. Gilboa® is different - and that's exactly the point, as Mel explains.

“ADAMA have got great provenance where we've put together existing molecules into great formulations. Gilboa® is our own ADAMA molecule - it's a completely new AI and a new mode of action.”

As the first country to get access to Gilboa®, the UK sets the tone for this innovation and will build a strong market understanding before the molecule expands across Europe.

“The first launch will be on Winter Wheat in the UK, and then expanding into Europe with additional crops after that... Gilboa® has application across many crops and diseases across our global business.”

ADAMA isn't stopping at a standalone product, either:

“We'll start with Gilboa® as a solo, in co-packs, but we're also looking at Gilboa® as a partner in different co-formulations - giving us opportunities to control diseases in a huge range of crops.”

What does Gilboa® look like in the field?

Theory is one thing, but seeing product performance for yourself in trial plots is where it really counts. Jean has been walking the plots at our Herefordshire ‘ADAMA in Action’ site comparing Gilboa® against the competition.

“In this field, Gilboa® is performing either equivalent or superior to the market standards. From what we’re seeing here, it doesn't matter if you spray at T1 or T2, the difference between the plots with Gilboa® vs those without is really amazing.”

Seeing Gilboa® at ADAMA in Action

To showcase Gilboa®'s performance and consistency up close, ADAMA hosted 6 ‘ADAMA in Action’ sites across the UK, with over 25 events giving agronomists and growers the chance to see just what Gilboa® can do in the field.

“I'm down here in Hereford at our ‘ADAMA in Action’ site. The plots are looking fantastic and you can really see where Gilboa® is performing at a level with market standards.”

And it's not a one-off result, says Jonny Oosthuizen:

“I've been to our ‘ADAMA in Action’ sites. North, South, East and West, across the whole country, and it's the same story everywhere. Gilboa® is really showing strong performance as a new mode of action, great consistency, and it builds true resilience into the fungicide programmes.”

Be part of The Next Generation.

A genuinely new mode of action doesn’t come around often, and Gilboa® provides cereals growers a new way to stabilise fungicide programmes of the future.
