Wheat crop in ear 2

ARIZONA®: Protection you can count on at T1

Dry... for now - but uncertainty remains. The season so far has been drier than usual, and many crops are looking clean. However, there is rainfall in the forecast but the uncertainty around when, where and how much is making spray decisions harder than usual.

As we know through recent experience, septoria doesn't need much rain to develop, and once it starts to move, it's hard to get back in control. That’s why it’s best to get ahead and stay ahead of disease.

As it’s likely we will be in a protectant situation at T1 this season, this plays directly to the strengths of ARIZONA®. With its true protectant, multi-site mode of action, it helps safeguard crops through this tricky window - whether it stays dry, or the weather turns wet. When conditions are uncertain, ARIZONA® offers certainty.

The latest field trials demonstrate that the application of ARIZONA® (500g/l folpet) at T1 provides a clear uplift in wheat yields and pays for itself by a factor of four to one.

Data collated over the last six years shows that the inclusion of ARIZONA® (ADAMA’s folpet-based multi-site fungicide) as a tank mix partner with other single site fungicides can help to improve winter wheat yields by an average of 0.3t/ha. This is achieved by ARIZONA®’s ability to keep septoria in check so that plants retain their green leaf area for longer. Crops are subsequently able to capture more sunlight throughout the spring and summer and are therefore able to produce a higher yield.

Cost-effective chemistry

At an ex-farm wheat price of £200/tonne, a yield uplift of 0.3t/ha is equivalent to an additional £60 of income per hectare That equates to a return of up to £4 for every £1 spent on ARIZONA®.

Every £1 spent on ARIZONA® will provide a £4 return on investment.

(Based on 272 trials carried out from 2019 to 2024, and wheat at £200/tonne)

Get ahead, stay ahead

The inclusion of ARIZONA® alongside other modes of action also plays a crucial role in disease resistance management: the ongoing erosion of the efficacy of at-risk single site fungicides means growers can no longer rely on the curative activity that azoles and SDHIs used to provide to bring infections back under control once they have taken hold.

It is therefore important to protect crops as early as possible, preferably before infections move upwards through the developing crop. Getting ahead of diseases by applying a robust treatment early in the season (at T1) and following this with subsequent treatments as the crop progresses will ensure each emerging leaf is protected before infection can occur.

Strong protection at T1 and beyond

To control septoria in wheat, the critical timing for the inclusion of ARIZONA® is at T1 when it delivers an average yield uplift of 0.21t/ha (compared to 0.14t/ha if applied at T2 only).

However, a programmed approach, with inclusions at T1 and T2, will provide the best results, contributing to an average yield improvement of 0.35t/ha.

ARIZONA®… protection that pays off

ARIZONA® (folpet 500 g/l) is a unique multi-site fungicide that provides valuable protection against key diseases in wheat and barley. ARIZONA® delivers a reliable return on investment through enhanced disease control and safeguards the efficacy of partner products as part of an anti-resistance strategy.

  • ARIZONA® enhances disease control by providing additional activity against septoria in wheat.
  • Provides a useful reduction of yellow and brown rusts, as well as intrinsic activity against mildew.
  • Delivers a reliable return on investment by extending green leaf area duration, resulting in higher yields and enhanced crop quality.
  • ADAMA’s ARIZONA® is the only multi-site fungicide which has been proven to extend the effective lifetime of at-risk fungicides by delaying the development of resistance.
