PROTECTING BARLEY AT T2 WITH ARIZONA®

With the spring’s mild conditions and recent rains helping crops to progress steadily through their growth stages, winter barleys are rapidly approaching the point at which the flag leaf and ear have emerged. As such, our thoughts turn to how best to provide long-lasting disease control from T2 onwards.

The T2 spray window (GS39-59) is the main opportunity for growers to protect crops against ramularia and to provide continued protection against net blotch and rhynchosporium - according to the AHDB, approximately 40% of fungicide yield response comes from this timing. It is therefore the ideal opportunity to include the multi-site fungicide, ARIZONA® (500g/l folpet) as a tank mix partner to triazoles such as Revysol which has, in recent years, become the backbone of barley fungicide programmes.

The addition of ARIZONA® at T2 provides a distinct improvement in ramularia control and extends green leaf area duration resulting in better crop yields and improved grain quality.

The addition of ARIZONA® also plays an important role in resistance management: there is increasing concern for the continued development of ramularia and net blotch resistance to at-risk single site chemistries including even the most recently introduced and highly effective products such as adepidyn. Including ARIZONA® in mixture with products such as this will extend the effective lifetime of this important SDHI fungicide against both ramularia and net blotch.

Why add ARIZONA®?

Including ARIZONA® (500g/l folpet) at the T2 timing provides five clear benefits:

  • Enhances disease control by providing additional activity against ramularia, net blotch and rhynchosporium
  • Works with partner products (including triazole) to provide long-lasting protection
  • Delivers a reliable return on investment by extending green leaf area duration, resulting in higher yields and improved grain quality
  • ADAMA’s ARIZONA® is the only multi-site fungicide which has been proven to extend the effective lifetime of at-risk single site fungicides by delaying the development of resistance
  • ARIZONA® enhances septoria control in wheat and can also provide a useful reduction of yellow and brown rusts. It also offers intrinsic activity against mildew.
  • ARIZONA® also safeguards barley against ramularia, net blotch and rhynchosporium.
  • T2 is the key timing for the inclusion of ARIZONA® in barley programmes

Improved disease control = better yields

As the charts below illustrate, the inclusion of ARIZONA® as a tank mix partner with other chemistries enhances disease control, resulting in better yields.

The inclusion of ARIZONA® at T2 reduces ramularia infections in Leaf 1 and Leaf 2

The addition of ARIZONA® at T2 provides a valuable uplift in yield

A 2025 trial in Scotland showed that the inclusion of ARIZONA® as a tank mix partner with Miravis Plus at T2 produced an average yield increase of 0.22 t/ha.A

Greener for longer

Trials have also shown that the inclusion of ARIZONA® at T2 helps plants to stay greener for longer, with results clearly visible in the field.

ARIZONA… protection that pays for itself

ARIZONA® (folpet 500 g/l) is a unique multi-site fungicide that provides valuable protection against key diseases in wheat and barley. ARIZONA delivers a reliable return on investment through enhanced disease control and safeguards the efficacy of partner products as part of an anti-resistance strategy.

  • ARIZONA enhances septoria control in wheat and can also provide a useful reduction of yellow and brown rusts. It also offers intrinsic activity against mildew.
  • ARIZONA also safeguards barley against ramularia, net blotch and rhynchosporium.
  • T2 is the key timing for the inclusion of ARIZONA in barley programmes
