Don’t leave yield unprotected at T1
ADAMA’s advice at this critical spray timing is simple: the inclusion of ARIZONA® (500g/l folpet) in programmes provides a clear uplift in wheat yields, with data from the last seven years showing an average yield response of 0.31t/ha.
This yield uplift is achieved by ARIZONA’s proven ability to keep septoria in check so that plants retain their green leaf area for longer. Crops are subsequently able to capture more sunlight which is converted into yield.
ARIZONA® is a multisite fungicide which works on multiple pathways within the fungus. It also acts on different stages in the pathogen’s lifecycle. ARIZONA's ability to reduce fungal spore germination reduces the amount of fungal hyphae that can enter the leaf tissue and takes the pressure off single site fungicides. It also reduces resporulation from visible lesions on the leaf surface and so reduces the amount of disease inoculum that can migrate up the canopy onto leaf 2 and leaf 1 (flagleaf). This helps to reduce the pressure on T2 fungicide applications.
The yield enhancing benefit provided by ARIZONA® has been shown to be remarkably consistent irrespective of how the weather unfolds, with better yields achieved in dry years when latent disease pressure is low and in wet years when the threat of disease is much greater.
Better protection for wheat
ARIZONA® can be used from T0 through to T2, but the key timing for its inclusion to protect against septoria is at T1 when it delivers an average yield uplift of 0.21t/ha.
In comparison, including ARIZONA® at the T2 timing alone delivers a yield benefit of 0.14t/ha.
However, for the very best results, a programmed approach of inclusion at T1 and T2 is recommended as this helps to keep a greater percentage of the crop’s canopy greener for longer resulting in an average yield improvement of 0.31t/ha.
Application rate also has an impact on yield benefit with two applications of 1.5l/ha providing a better return on investment compared to two treatments of 1.0l/ha.
The inclusion of ARIZONA® alongside other modes of action also plays a crucial role in disease resistance management: the erosion of the efficacy of single site fungicides means growers can no longer rely on the curative activity that azoles and SDHIs used to provide to bring infections back under control once they have taken hold.
It is therefore important to protect crops as early as possible, preferably before infections move upwards through the developing crop. Getting ahead of diseases by applying a robust treatment of single site chemistries plus ARIZONA® at T1 (and following this with a subsequent application at T2) will therefore ensure each emerging leaf is protected before infection can occur.
T1 is the critical timing for protecting wheat against septoria
The bottom line is ARIZONA®. When margins matter, choose performance that pays
ARIZONA® (folpet 500 g/l) is a unique multi-site fungicide that provides valuable protection against key diseases in wheat and barley. ARIZONA delivers a reliable return on investment through enhanced disease control and safeguards the efficacy of partner products as part of an anti-resistance strategy.
- ARIZONA® enhances septoria control in wheat and can also provide a useful reduction of yellow and brown rusts. It also offers intrinsic activity against mildew.
- ARIZONA® also safeguards barley against ramularia, net blotch and rhynchosporium.
-
Seven years of trials data has proven that ARIZONA delivers an average yield benefit of 0.31t/ha.
