SC FORMULATION ANTHEM® DELIVERS SUPERIOR MAIZE WEED CONTROL

After a few weeks of warmer weather, soil temperatures have risen to the point that maize drilling has started in many parts of the UK.

With the arrival of some rainfall over the Easter weekend, growers are starting to gear up to apply pre-emergence herbicides to provide early season weed control.

However, despite the break in the weather, unless a substantial amount of rainfall has fallen, some lighter land could remain too dry for residual herbicides to provide effective weed control.

On land where a soil moisture deficit remains, one way to maximise the efficacy of pre-emergence weed control is use a residual herbicide with an SC (suspension concentrate) formulation.

In programmes where pendimethalin is the preferred active ingredient at the pre-emergence timing, ANTHEM (400 g/L pendimethalin in an SC formulation) offers a distinct advantage over rival CS (capsule suspension) formulations as it is more readily and consistently taken up by plants (see graphs below).

ANTHEM is also a good choice for maize growers who want to introduce a non-ALS inhibiting mode of action into their spring herbicide programme – to target annual meadowgrass and broad-leaved weeds such as poppy, or where ALS resistance has been confirmed.

ANTHEM (400 g/L pendimethalin) is a long-lasting and reliable residual herbicide which provides a good foundation in weed control programmes to target tough grass and broad-leaved weeds. ANTHEM offers four key benefits:

  • SC formulation enhances uptake in drying conditions
  • Non-ALS mode of action
  • Broad spectrum weed control (inc. ALS-resistant species)
  • Easy to pour, rinse and clean
