SORATEL… the unique, high performing PTZ option
SORATEL® (250 g/L prothioconazole) is formulated using ADAMA’s unique ‘AsorbitalTM’ technology which uses a special solvent system and a built-in adjuvant to improve uptake of the prothioconazole fungicide into the leaf (more information below).
This novel formulation technology also enables excellent systemic movement of the active ingredient through plants to the site of action against fungal cells, resulting in improved disease control compared to the current market-leading prothioconazole product.

Diseases controlled & crops protected
SORATEL® provides protection against the following diseases:
| Crop | Diseases controlled |
| Wheat |
Eyespot Septoria (leaf and glume blotch) Powdery mildew Yellow rust Brown rust* Tan spot* Fusarium ear blight* (reduction of deoxynivalenol) Reduction of sooty moulds |
| Barley |
Eyespot Powdery mildew Yellow rust Brown rust Fusarium ear blight* Reduction of sooty moulds, rhynchosporium and net blotch |
| Rye |
Eyespot Powdery mildew Brown rust Rhynchosporium |
| Oats |
Eyespot Crown rust Mildew |
| Winter OSR |
Light leaf spot* Phoma leaf spot Stem canker Sclerotinia stem rot |
* moderate control
Application timing
SORATEL® can be used as standalone products or as an effective tank mix partner with other fungicides to deliver a broader spectrum of activity. It is ideally suited to the T3 application timing, but can also be used earlier in the season thanks to their flexible labels:
- Wheat: before grain milky ripe stage (GS 70)
- Rye: before grain milky ripe stage (GS 70)
- Barley: use before the beginning of flowering (GS61)
- Oats: use before the beginning of flowering (GS61)
- Oilseed rape: up to mid flowering
Enhanced uptake and in-plant for superior septoria control
Independent laboratory trials carried out by BIOtransfer (France, 2021) have shown that products formulated using ADAMA’s AsorbitalTM technology are taken into the plant more quickly than standard formulations. This in turn improves their speed and efficacy septoria.
In the trial, a standardised amount of the products tested (each delivering equivalent amounts of prothioconazole) was applied to the basal part of wheat leaves, with the apical part of the leaves left untreated. This allowed penetration into the basal part and potential migration into the apical part.
At various timepoints after application the basal part was washed to halt uptake and to remove any remaining surface residues. At the same time, the apical part was removed to stop any further migration of product.
Both leaf parts were subsequently inoculated with septoria and incubated under saturated, humid conditions. Septoria control was then evaluated at 21 and 28 days post inoculation (dpi), with the results reflecting the quantity of active ingredient present in each part of the leaf.
The results can be interpreted as follows:
- less disease in the basal part indicated faster penetration into the leaf
- less disease in the apical part indicated better migration from the basal part to the apical part of the leaf.

dpi – days post inoculation; hAA – hours after application
Trials have shown that the uptake of ADAMA’s formulation is quicker and more effective against septoria compared to the market leading prothioconazole product. (Source: Independent laboratory trials conducted by BIOtransfer, France)

DAA – days after application
The ADAMA formulation also offers better protection against septoria in non-treated leaf areas thanks to its superior movement within plants. (Source: Independent laboratory trials conducted by BIOtransfer, France)
Better fusarium and sclerotinia control
Trials carried out in Europe also show that, gramme for gramme per hectare, SORATEL® consistently and reliably provides a notable improvement in fusarium control under a range of conditions: in extensive trials, it provides up to 18% (Maritime conditions) and 13% (UK conditions) more control of fusarium compared to the market leading prothioconazole product.

Similar results have also been seen when using ADAMA’s Asorbital formulations to treat sclerotinia in oilseed rape growing in a maritime climate
Protecting OSR
SORATEL® is also suitable for use in winter oilseed rape: it is a good option for use at stem extension to control light leaf spot, especially in those crops which do not require a growth regulator to be applied (e.g. those crops which are backward due to seasonal challenges and/or because they have been impacted by pigeon damage).
